Air Gauge

Functional Gauge

This type of air gauge is a composite of gauges that are used to measure the size of a bore by relaying the dimension to a remote measuring unit. They operate much the same way as inside calipers and require the person operating the tool to get the feel for it and get repeatable results. The variable data gauge is closed by twisting one end of the handle, and this procedure puts a little bit of friction on the telescopic portion of the gauge. Once it has been put on a size slightly larger than the bore, the gauge is put in at an angle to the bore, and then aligned radically across the opening. This action squeezes the two anvils so that they stay locked at the dimension of the bore after being removed.

When an automotive or aerospace engineer is using this class of gauge, they will usually require a slightly different technique as opposed to the functional gauge; the small hole gauge is initially set somewhat smaller than the bore to be measured. After, it is put into the gauge and adjusted by turning the knob at the base until there is a slight amount of pressure on the unit. If the operator would like real time processing of this information, a graphical user interface must be employed. The GUI can display the progress of a process that is under control of more than one process variable. It will display a scale that extends across the gauge axis, and each bar on the scale is representative of a set of minimum and maximum limits for a process variable. Furthermore, the GUI includes a graphical picture that is displayed along the gauge axis, and is representative of the value of the current process variable.

Sometimes the software can acts like a spreadsheet, with each variable representing a column, and each row the equivalent of a physical part. The air spindles can be set to automatically advance to the next variable, with or without sub-grouping. The stand alone system does not require any type of custom programming in order to be useful. Non-programmers are easily able to configure this unit, leaving your gauge specialists free to think about data instead of messing around with data collection. This sort of setup makes accurate and reliable measurements a key factor in the competitive manufacturing environment. Landau Gauge offers concentricity systems for industrial applications that have proven results and less than two microns accuracy. Landau Gauge is continually improving its modular design to adapt to all customer requirements, while at the same time providing the flexibility that is critical for maintaining quality.

Variable reading functional gauge systems provide a fast and accurate way to measure tolerances during the manufacturing process. Measurements such as functional size, minor diameter, major diameter, pitch diameter and concentricity and be accurately and quickly calculated. The portable gauge is designed to receive an indicator gauge that measures a dimension of an automotive part. It has a tubular housing that includes a radial surface with a port that facilitates the viewing of an indicator gauge and proximal end portion. An end cap is attached to receive a movable anchor pin that extends outward. The distance between the two contact points is measured by an adjusting mechanism, which is connected directly to the housing.
